Debt Deal Done, Fake Crisis Averted

31 Jul

Hot Air has the details - it mostly works out to a defeat for the left as it looks like they didn’t get tax hikes, didn’t get as much new debt ceiling as they wanted and were prevented from gutting defense.  The deal was done because, in the end, Obama saw his approval rating cratering and wanted to stop the bleeding – some times you do have to let a crisis go to waste.  Especially when you made one up out of whole cloth.

The real budget crisis comes in 2015 or so if we don’t significantly cut spending by then.  While Obama is President, we won’t be able to do that – so the whole solution to our real budget crisis is to get Obama out of the White House in 2012.

As anyone who pays attention knows, we do not have a debt problem, we have a SPENDING problem. This supposed agreement is nothing but a false solution. God help us all.

      KJ,

Long time no see. Welcome back.

Actually the federal government does have a revenue problem, but it’s a self-imposed problem. Because of the recession, revenues from taxes HAVE dropped because even the “wealthy” are making less money, but the spending has gone on as though nothing had happened. To top it off, the recession was largely due to government policies in the first place, and now the Dems want the “wealthy” to pay for their mistake. How convoluted is that? The fact that they’ve managed to keep tax increases out of this deal says to me that there are still a few adults in Washington.

So the oligarchs and the plutocrats have come to an agreement at last.

    You win.

Yep. That’s the answer. The President made the deal because he is sooooo totally self- serving that all he cared about was his so called cratering approval ratings. Guess you forgot to mention the even more abysmal ratings for congress in general and the teaparty terrorists specifically. And they are terrorists, regardless of your smug indignation over my aforementioned statement. They comprise less than one half of one third of the members of congress and yet they ruled the day. The good news is that they are despised and ridiculed for their egregious behavior and will continue to be so until November 2012.
Congress person Joe Walsh (not the musician) is a textbook example of rank hypocracy and the self-serving element you Mark, accuse the President of. $100,000.00 owed in back child support. Loaning his campaign $ in effort to get elected but ignoring his financial obligation to his children and ex-wife. For 10 yrs. And all the while lecturing the public on fiscal responsibility. Gag me.
With the current crew of Republican candidates a second term for Obama is something that the bookies in your home town would place a bet on. You’ve said it before yourself.

      Mitch,

Thank you for confirming the following quote:

      Small minds discuss things
      Average minds discuss people
      Great minds discuss ideas

Come back when you want to discuss some ideas. K?

These aren’t cuts, this deal barely slows down the rate of growth. And Mitch resorts to calling other Americans terrorists over their insistence that the unsustainable trajectory of government spending be reigned in a bit.

Good to know that liberal drama queen hysteria is a lice and well. This deal is complete bullshit

What do you expect from the republicans party? Always ready to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. Always ready to fight the next battle. The less you expect from them the better. If by some miracle of God, we elect a repub POTUS and senate and keep the house in 2012 do you really expect the spending spree to stop?
I don’t and if you do you are simply a fool.
