I’m afraid I took the Mrs out to dinner, so I missed the majority – but Ann Althouse is live-blogging it and Stephen Green is drunk-blogging it. So, we’re pretty well covered.
I have to say that I’m not terribly interested in these debates…mostly because the only sort of debates I like are those where the candidates ask each other questions. With such a large number of candidates, I’d have them draw names at random out of a hat (after having drawn numbers out of a hat to decide who goes first). It’d be a lot more interesting and a lot less scripted than the way debates are done now…and a lot more fun to watch.
The most important thing to remember is that any of the candidates would be a better President than Obama and any one of them can beat him. I’m still leaning towards Bachmann (she’s right about vaccines in the sense that everyone should decide for themselves and their children on them…but wow wrong on falling for the old scam story that vaccination causes autism) but I’m not absolutely sold on any candidate. Even Romney is rising in my estimation of late…seems that all the pressure being brought from the right is forcing him on to more conservative ground; that’s good. My favorite of all favorites is still Sarah Palin and if she gets in, I’ll immediately be an enthusiastic and horribly biased backer of her candidacy…with the proviso, of course, that whomever gets the nomination will also wind up with my enthusiastic and horribly biased support (of course, my double-plus favorite of all favorites is Bobby Jindal…but he ain’t running…he’s holding off until 2016 if we lose next year, or 2020 if we win; and he’s very much young enough to wait).
Anyways, did any of you watch the debate? What did you think? Anyone land any punches?

Drunk-blogging a presidential debate? Interesting link to say the least.
Casper,
Green often does…he’s quite good at it.
Good debate!
I watched a good portion of the debate this evening and at least I can say aside of all of the horse manure that is involved in these 8 plus person debates (Who is Johnson and aside from his comment about his neighbor’s dogs making more shovel ready jobs than Obama–what was he there for?) was that more folks got a turn at the mike than before–at least it was not as apparent that the media was trying to select then next candidate for the GOP as before.
Newt had some great soundbites that will be played for the next week and the expected battle between Romney & Perry was there–nothing special. I had never heard of Cain’s 9-9-9 plan before and was somewhat intrigued. Everyone got their ideas somewhat presented and I will leave it up to the audience to decide for themselves; however, I felt that Bachmann missed the perfect opportunity on the final, albeit goofy question, about picking a VP from those on stage. Some answered, some hedged, but her answer should have been clear–all she had to say was “Well, she isn’t here on stage tonight” and leave it at that.
I broke down and tried to watch the debate tonight, but it seemed like an undercard to the main event. The heavyweight champion is not in the race yet. When Palin gets in, that will be the game-changer. Right now, she is smart to let the others beat up on each other. Then she can get in at the right moment.
Very good debate, I thought every candidate did well, and it is clear that anyone on that stage (with the exception of Paul), is clearly a better choice for POTUS than the current resident.

god told me not to watch the debate
so i didn’t….

I hear God begging you to get psychiatric help too. I hope you’re still listening.
Yeah. And God told the audience to boo a gay soldier serving in Iraq. So now the Republicans cheer for the governor who has the distinction of executing the largest number of people, cheer for the idea of letting a young person die because he happens to have no health insurance, and boo soldiers serving our country overseas. I can hardly wait for the next debate.
Watson,
Thank you for the opinion from the emotionally unstable, hyper sensitive, less-than-honest, drama queen left. Always refreshing.

the homosexual derangement was a FELONY in all (57) states for 200 years of American jurisprudence.
A mental disorder according to the AMA
A disorder rejected by all major religions and demoninations world wide and considered an ABOMINATION by Christianity.

At least they’re putting their derangement front and center, watson. That’s not only nice of them, it’s shockingly honest.
