I’d Like to Thank Nancy Pelosi…

…as this time for ensuring that the Republican Party retains control of the House until at least the 2022 mid-terms:

House Democrats will introduce legislation to ban the production of high-capacity magazines on the first day of the next congressional session, the office of Rep. As I’ve said elsewhere, I’m more than happy to re-fight the gun control debate with the Democrats – even after weeks of demonization and in the wake of the Newtown massacre, support for gun rights polls high and the NRA remains more popular than, for instance, Nancy Pelosi.

Now, to be sure, Democrats are not introducing this twaddle with any hope that it will be passed – it is just mindless fluff being fed to their base which demands they “do something” about gun violence (no, not the gun violence in gun-controlled Chicago…our liberals don’t care about that; perhaps because its mostly black and brown skinned kids being killed?).  But it will force Democrats to go on record – and the House GOP leadership should ensure that all Democrat proposals for gun control are fast-tracked for floor votes.  Democrats in red and purple areas of the country (and even some blue areas which manage to combine being a hippy with owning a gun…we’re looking at you Vermont and Oregon) will have to vote against, GOPers will gleefully vote against…and all Democrats will be tarred with a “gun grabber” brush for the 2014 mid-terms.

Given that we probably will go over the cliff and we will be blamed for it (somehow or another an asinine proposal to raise taxes on “the rich” is resonating more with the American people than the stark fact that we’re bankrupt and need to cut spending), I was wondering what we’d do to regain political traction.  Here it is – handed to us on a silver platter.  Yes, our Democrats are better at the nuts and bolts of politics…but, remember, they are liberal and thus will continue to fall in to idiocy.  Therein lies our hope for a better future…

Her Eminence, Pope Nancy of the Patriotic American Catholic Church, Speaks

And, as per usual,  subtracts from the sum total of human knowledge:

…CNSNews.com asked Pelosi, who is Catholic, whether she supported her church in the lawsuits it has filed, which argue that the administration’s regulation violates the freedom of religion guaranteed by the First Amendment.

“What about the 43 Catholic institutions [that] have now sued the administration over the regulation that requires them to provide contraceptives, sterilizations, and abortifacients in their health care plans?” CNSNews.com asked. “They say that violates their religious freedom.  Do you support the Catholic Church in their lawsuits against the administration?”

“Well, I don’t think that’s the entire Catholic Church,” Pelosi responded. “Those people have a right to sue, but I don’t think they’re speaking ex cathedra for the Catholic Church.  And there are people in the Catholic Church, including some of the bishops, who have suggested that some of this may be premature,” Pelosi said…

Uh, Nance, old gal – ex cathedra is something the Pope does only very rarely and only to rule on matters of doctrine.  The Pope does not rule on how we govern ourselves.  The Church’s opposition to abortion goes back to the earliest days of the Church and thus requires no, new ruling from the Pope on whether it can ever be allowed – and, so, when 43 Catholic institutions sue the US government in order to fight against a government mandate to violate Church teaching then they are not doing something ex cathedra because they don’t have to…but they are very much defending the teaching of the Catholic Church you claim to belong to.

It really does make you wonder – how did someone this ignorant manage to not only get elected to Congress but manage to become Speaker of the House at one point?  Does anyone on the left side of the aisle have any concern for intellectual ability?  Was it really no more than she was a fountain of (sometimes illegal) fundraising and a sure vote for the left?  Is that all it takes to rise high in the Democrat party?  Basic knowledge and honesty play no role?

 

Understanding the President

Joseph Rago of the Wall Street Journal talks things over with House Majority Leader Cantor, and comes out with this:

Like Mr. Cantor, President Obama is also a man of deep and strong convictions, and perhaps that’s why they seem to dislike each other so much. Call it, to adapt Freud, the narcissism of big differences. Mr. Cantor cautions that he isn’t a “psychoanalyst”—before politics, he was a real-estate lawyer and small businessman—but he says, “It’s almost as if someone cannot have another opinion that is different from his. He becomes visibly agitated. . . . He does not like to be challenged on policy grounds.”

In a meeting with the Journal’s editorial board Wednesday, Mr. Cantor, 48, gives his side of one of his more infamous altercations with the president. In a mid-July Cabinet Room meeting, Mr. Cantor made a suggestion that Mr. Obama and other Democrats took as impertinent. “How dare I,” Mr. Cantor recalls of the liberal sentiment in the room. He was sitting between Nancy Pelosi and Steny Hoyer, “and they were in absolute agreement that [the president] was such a saint for having endured all this.”

“No president has sat here like I have, in these kinds of meetings, with congressional leaders, in this detail,” Mr. Obama said in Mr. Cantor’s recollection, which Democrats dispute. Mr. Cantor says the president also invoked Ronald Reagan “to be a little patronizing of us, because he assumed that anything Reagan did we like.” Mr. Obama then told Mr. Cantor, “Eric, don’t call my bluff,” and walked out…

Maybe this is why Obama has a desire to appoint Czars…it was Czar Nicholas I who stated, at the start of his reign, “I cannot permit that someone should disagree with my views, once he knows what they are”.  Might be that my little joke about His Majesty, Barry I actually hits close to home.  President Obama might be one of those sad political specimens who are driven bonkers by contradiction.  Equally telling, if Cantor has it completely right, is the servility of Pelosi and Hoyer…The One was defied by a Republican, and that was offensive…where does that little worm get off talking like that to Dear Leader?  I wonder if Obama still has the Democrat Congressional leadership enthralled like that?  Is the mere fact that he is black something which will continue to blind them to the facts?  To put it differently, is the election of  a black man so important, to liberals, that the results will be resolutely ignored?

I guess we’ll find out as the next year unfolds.  But if Cantor has read Obama correctly – and other evidence out there indicates he’s at least in the ball park – then Obama will just rigidly adhere to his view and keep bulling ahead, regardless of what happens.  This works out bad for America, because the President should be a man with the courage to admit he has been wrong and then change course.  On the other hand, it works out great for conservatism because it means Obama will just keep driving liberalism over the cliff.

It is a pity that our final wake up from liberalism should have to come like this, but it also might have been inevitable.  So seductive is the idea that you can have it all for nothing that once you fall for liberalism, it would take a complete catastrophe to get you cured of it.  The catastrophe is coming (though the very worst won’t get here until 2015…and not then if we toss Obama in 2012)…but that means the liberation is, too.

Debt Deal Done, Fake Crisis Averted

Hot Air has the details - it mostly works out to a defeat for the left as it looks like they didn’t get tax hikes, didn’t get as much new debt ceiling as they wanted and were prevented from gutting defense.  The deal was done because, in the end, Obama saw his approval rating cratering and wanted to stop the bleeding – some times you do have to let a crisis go to waste.  Especially when you made one up out of whole cloth.

The real budget crisis comes in 2015 or so if we don’t significantly cut spending by then.  While Obama is President, we won’t be able to do that – so the whole solution to our real budget crisis is to get Obama out of the White House in 2012.

Nancy Pelosi: Reactionary Liberal

Just can’t let go of the Big Government which made her rich – from The Weekly Standard:

Nancy Pelosi on today’s vote: “What we’re trying to do is save the world from the Republican budget. We’re trying to save life on this planet as we know it today.”

It is important to keep in mind what “as we know it” applies here – it applies to people like Nancy Pelosi.  People who produce no wealth; people who grow fat off of a corrupt, crony-capitalist system; people who look down upon the benighted masses who didn’t join the Ruling Class in looting the nation.  So, she’s right – she’s trying to save life as she knows it…if we win, she’s through; she and all the corrupt barnacles of American life.

So, let’s get out there and make her nightmare come true.
